Ecoengineering and Ecomanagement

The Ecoengineering and Ecomanagement course is largely committed to a holistic approach to forests and the landscape in general. Theoretical and practical work during the study of this course to the future engineers provide appropriate guidance, knowledge and techniques for dealing with problems related to soil and water protection, planning, use and management of land and water resources, dealing with the management of protected and protected forest areas, and are also trained to assess the impact of forestry and eco-engineering activities on the environment.

Modern trends and new engineering approaches and technologies in nature and environment protection primarily in soil and water protection, optimal use of spatial resources, as well as management of protected areas (from various aspects: nature protection, protection of aquatic ecosystems, etc. .) require the creation of appropriate staff to respond to these challenges. New trends, EU directives as well as technical knowledge in the field lead to and impose the need to fit them into the curriculum. Only in this way will students gain new, up-to-date knowledge that they could apply in the scientific research, application and educational processes related to their professional engagement. Ecology and environmental protection is a very broad and multidisciplinary field. This study program covers a large part of this field by giving an overview of some biotechnical, engineering, planning and management aspects.

This study program provides education of staff who will be trained in: understanding environmental media (soil, water), organic world (flora, fauna) and biodiversity, climate change and land degradation and desertification, design and execution of works related to remediation of: erosive lands, mines, tailings and landfills, other severely degraded lands including biotechnical and construction measures, water basin management planning, torrential watershed management and risk management, knowledge of landscapes, use and management of land resources and basics of spatial planning, integrated forest protection including eco-monitoring, preparation of environmental reports and studies, management and business related to protective and protected forests and areas, organization of scientific expert visits to natural values.

The main goal of the study program is to train candidates for analysis and solving complex problems related to natural resources (land, water, vegetation, flora, fauna). On the one hand, special importance is given to environmental engineering, i.e. planning, design and execution of engineering projects related to land and water (erosion protection, torrent regulation, disaster risk management). On the other hand, the candidates will be trained for activities (planning, organizing, execution, monitoring of natural resources) related to protected areas and zones from different aspects, as well as forests for protective purposes. The study program is conceived in a way that enables the acquisition of knowledge and competencies necessary for a graduate engineer in this field which will be the basis for further education and monitoring the latest knowledge in the field of eco-engineering and eco-management. At the same time, the graduate engineers from this study program will be ready to respond to the requests of the entities that manage protected areas, the civil sector that deals with the problems in the field of environment, state institutions, local self-government. Also, the goal of this study program is to create engineers who are competent for entrepreneurship and rural development in mountainous areas.

Graduated engineers in Ecoengineering and Ecomanagement will be able to become part of the economy, but also in the public institutions responsible for the management of protective and protected areas. At the same time, graduate engineers from this study program will be able to be involved in public administration related to nature and environment protection and landscape planning. In addition, these staff can be employed in education and science, but also in consulting and design companies engaged in water engineering and management, design and construction of buildings (in the field of land protection), nature protection and environment etc.
