Landscape Design

Modern cities impose new trends in the shaping and arrangement of green areas of all categories, which opens space for the formation of quality staff that will deal with solving the problems of landscape design. Theoretical and practical work should give the future engineer in landscape design appropriate guidance, tools and sufficient knowledge to be able to deal with the problems of planning, arising, maintenance and protection of green areas in urban areas.

In the Landscape Design study program, the basic principles and elements necessary for the successful combination of the functional with the aesthetic in the conception and creation of gardens of various types and formats are studied. The process of landscape design is studied in detail and includes not only the principles and techniques in design, but also the main physiological, morphological, aesthetic and ecological characteristics of plants, which are the basic material for creating gardens. In addition, students are educated about combining multiple components (vegetation, relief, water and architecture), and at the same time harmoniously combine art and science in the realization of their horticultural projects.

The courses cover a wide range of knowledge from various fields, which enable students to design, implement and maintain mini- or mega-projects all related to landscaping and horticulture in urban and peri-urban environments. Green areas are essentially a cultivated area, and in addition to aesthetic impact, they fulfill a number of other functions important for modern living. They improve the microclimate in the neighborhoods, purify the air, reduce temperature extremes and city noise. Greenery is crucial in the wider, general landscaping of urban areas, and is one of the most important factors in improving the quality of life in urban areas.

The purpose of this study program is to create a profile for the profession of engineer in landscape design in accordance with the needs of the modern economy and based on the established criteria for quality teaching at the University level. The study program is conceived in a way that enables the acquisition of knowledge and competencies necessary for a graduate engineer in this field, which will be the basis for further education and follow the latest knowledge in the field of landscape design. At the same time, the graduate engineers of this study program will be ready to meet the requirements of modern landscape design. Also, the goal of this program is to create engineers who are competent for the development of public and private enterprises, design, planning related to landscaping, who will have the fundamental knowledge needed for further education in the second and third cycle. This goal is achieved through the proposed program that enables the education of future engineers and their training to apply the acquired fundamental knowledge in the field of landscape design to formulate and solve biotechnical and engineering problems, to use engineering approach and modern software tools in landscape design. to interpret and analyze the results of their work, to advance knowledge and to monitor the development of landscape design.

The study program Landscape Design enables the creation of staff who after graduation will become part of the economy, primarily within the public utility companies that participate in the maintenance of urban greenery. At the same time, the graduate engineers from this study program will be able to be involved in public administration whose functions are related to urban greenery, then in education and science, but also in consulting, design and production companies that deal with all aspects of urban greenery. , starting from nurseries, through design, construction and maintenance of raised decorative greenery etc.
