Forestry

In the Forestry course, the main focus of the studies is dedicated to forest management. In the past, forests and forest land were perceived by society mostly from a limited, financial point of view. They are still today, and globally, an important resource for the economies of countries and regions, but the approach according to which forests are reduced only to financial criteria has already been abandoned. Apart from being a resource that provides material goods, primarily wood and other forest products (medicinal plants, plant parts, mushrooms, fruits, etc.), modern forestry and modern forest societies see it as a fragile system with much larger ecological and social values, which themselves have their own financial values. Numerous other useful functions for society are: multifaceted protective function especially in terms of biodiversity protection and erosion prevention; positive impact on climate and water regime; oxygen production and air purification; improving the quality of the environment; the sequestration of carbon dioxide as one of the gases that contribute to the greenhouse effect; leisure and recreation of people, etc.

The aim of the Forestry study program is to train staff for all activities related to raising, cultivation, protection, exploitation of forests, inventory and planning of forest management, planning and implementation of the hunting economy.

Forestry study program includes the most important aspects of forestry, i.e. knowledge of forest vegetation and plant communities, grafting of forest species, seed production, nursery and afforestation, forest cultivation, reclamation of degraded forests and shrubs, mechanization in forestry, forest exploitation (timber and non-wood forest products), timber supply and transport planning, planning and construction of forest roads, design and construction of other forest buildings, forest protection, forest fire management, game breeding and hunting, economics and organization of forestry and forest enterprises, forest survey and inventory, forest management planning, management and business related to forest products.
