Ass. Prof. Dr.sc Ognen Onchevski is a researcher and university lecturer focusing on water and soil conservation, environmental protection, and natural resource management. He was born on July 23, 1984, in Skopje, where he completed his primary and secondary education. He graduated from the Faculty of Forestry in Skopje, specializing in landscaping and environmental improvement.

In 2019/2020, as a scholarship holder of the Government of Japan, he spent time as a research fellow at the University of Tokyo’s Faculty of Agriculture. In 2020/2021, he enrolled in a master’s program in Agricultural Engineering at the same faculty, which he completed in 2022 with the highest grades. His master’s thesis focused on soil and water conservation in the dry areas of Macedonia. In the same year, he began doctoral studies, and in 2025, he successfully defended his PhD dissertation dedicated to the role of forest shelterbelts in water resource management in Ovche Pole.

His scientific research is based on sustainable soil and water management, desertification and rehabilitation of degraded land, erosion control systems, the effects of vegetation, and the influence of soil and water conservation measures on microclimate. He is the author of several scientific papers published in international journals and presented at international conferences.

From 2022 to 2024, he was a member of the organizing committee for the International Conference on Rural and Environmental Development (ICERD). He served as an assistant editor for an international scientific journal in the same field. During this period, he also worked as a researcher at the Environmental Rehabilitation and Conservation Institute (ERECON) in Tokyo, where he was engaged in projects related to soil protection, agroecological systems, and rural development.

Since December 2024, he has been employed as an assistant at the Department of Land and Water at the Faculty of Forestry Sciences, Landscape Architecture, and Eco-Engineering “Hans Em” in Skopje, where he also participates in the teaching process. Previously, he gained professional experience as a permaculture design consultant, project manager, and educator in several regional and international organizations.

He is fluent in English and has basic knowledge of Japanese. He is an active participant in numerous seminars, trainings, and conferences in the country and abroad, where he frequently appears as a lecturer or researcher.
